8' Traditional Wood Pram

NEWS FLASH

Our 8' Traditional Wood Pram are now built a 5 ply marine grade plywood which is suitable for staining instead of a 3 ply marine plywood which is full of "footballs" and difficult to hide the grain. This is a HUGE upgrade for our already value packed wood pram. Our wood prams are built to order and ONLY in our Winter months with Spring delivery so order early or wait until next season. You could always look at our glass prams as well. Our Stillwater Classic or Stillwater Classic "Lite" are both, in reality, our wood pram in lightweight, durable and low maintenabce fiberglass.

Our classic wood pram design dates back to the mid 1600’s. Our “Traditional Wood” pram hulls are built with high quality 5 ply HydroTech marine grade plywood and come standard with mahogany gunwales. An ash rub strip on the bottom center  and one each on the chines reducing wear and tear and are replaceable. Seams and bottom are fiberglassed to reduce maintenance and increase the life of the hull. No assembly required. Ready for sanding and paint. Why buy a kit with this quality and these prices? "Grandpas Stories"

woodnew2.jpg (7218 bytes)We hear all the stories about “boy I remember my dad’s old wood pram when I was a kid”. So, for all of you yearning to go back in time to the “good old days” we have completely assembled 8’ Traditional Wood Prams available. Built for us locally by two brothers who are in their late 70’s and have been building wood boats all their lives. The entire bottom and all seams have been epoxied as well as the interior floor in front and behind the center seat.

bill1.jpg (16691 bytes)Here is a 39 year old Traditional Wood pram owned by my brother-in-law in use catching Kamloops rainbow trout in British Columbia. With the exception of some minor rot in the transom (after almost 40 years in a basement I'd have some rot too) area which was fixed this year it's still going strong. The story behind this pram is quite funny. Bill's dad used to buy these (from the same gents who build them for us now) six at a time. They would stand them up in the garage and "drag" one over the rocks and barnacles down to the water and row out to their fishing boat. This would go on until it wouldn't hold water any more. They would then leave it on the beach, set it on fire and go up and start the whole process over again. Hey, they were only $35 a piece 40 years ago!   Bill's next pram you might ask? The Stillwater Classic Fly Fishing Edition of course.
